Adventure Xstream 12 Hour Adventure Race

On March 28, the Utah NROTC Unit competed in the Adventure Xstream 12 Hour Adventure Race in Moab, Utah. The team was comprised of MIDN Peters, MIDN Weiss, MIDN Moyles, and MIDN Withroder.

The race began on the banks of the Green River, outside of Moab, UT, with a 19 mile Mt. bike leg up Long Canyon. This was followed by a 250' rappel directly across from the scenic Gemini Bridges. After the rappel, teams completed a five mile run back to the top to retrieve their bikes and pedal another 15 miles across the desert to the kayak transition. The kayak portion of the race presented 7.5 miles of flat water paddling down the Green River to the finish. Teams were given area topographic maps and coordinates to various checkpoints and were required to navigate themselves through the desert.

Competing in such an arduous race not only tested the team's physical abilities, but also required extensive teamwork and mental toughness. The NROTC team finished fifth place, with an overall time of 7 hours and 30 minutes.

The team gained valuable experience and is looking forward to returning to Moab next year to claim the first place medal.
