Congratulations University of Utah NROTC Pistol Team!
March 19th, 2009- The University of Utah Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Pistol team wins the National Championship!
The NRA Intercollegiate Pistol Championships are held annually at Fort Benning, Georgia, where the National Collegiate individual and team champions are determined. Qualifications for an invitation to the national championships are based upon scores fired in the intercollegiate sectional competitions held throughout the U.S.A.
The ROTC teams compete in the standard pistol category. Teams are made up of 4 shooters, firing a total of 60 rounds for score, at 10 points possible per round. Going into the national championships the University of Utah NROTC was ranked in second place, with Texas A&M holding first by 170 points.
With a total possible team score of 2400 points, the difference between Utah and Texas was a mere 6 points. Utah won - 1932 to 1926. This is the first time that the University of Utah NROTC has won the national championship. Not only did the Utah team take first place, Sgt Kevin peck finished first in the individual ROTC category with a score of 525.
The Utah NROTC team is: SSgt Joseph Masini (Captain), Sgt Kevin Peck, Sgt Mike Mieure, and OC Robert Taylor.
