Volkslauf

On October 11, 2008, 3000 runners descended down upon the grueling mud run filled with over 70 obstacles known as the Volkslauf. Five members from the University of Utah NROTC program participated and continued the tradition of sending strong teams to compete. The team consisted of SSGT Castaneda, SGT Salazar, MIDN Allphin, MIDN Trodahl, and MIDN Mulkey. This group trained extremely hard to be in the best shape possible. With three returning members (MIDN Trodahl, MIDN Allphin, and SGT Salazar), the team was better prepared than in years past. The race itself was extremely grueling. MIDN Mulkey became the first female from the unit to participate. She ran amazingly well coming in 12th in the female overall division. The male team continued its tradition of placing very high in the competition. Instead of running in the military division as in years past, the team ran in the male overall division, allowing the team to face better overall competition. The male team placed 4th with a time of 1 hour and 4 minutes.
