LtCol Wendel

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Wendel received his commission in 1985 upon graduation from Oregon State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Vet. His first assignment after graduation from The Basic School was with 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines where he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, Dragons Platoon Commander and 81mm Mortar Platoon commander. In May of 1989 he was transferred to Recruiting Station Denver Colorado where he was assigned as the Officer Selection Officer. Upon completion of this tour, he attended US Army Advance Infantry Officer course and was subsequently assigned as the Assistant Infantry Rep, Tactical Exercise Evaluation and Control Group, MCAGCC 29 Palms California. In February 1994 Capt Wendel was given Command of Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines for 18 months and then assumed the duties as the Battalion S-3 for 28 more months. In 1997, having been selected to command a Recruiting Station, Major Wendel reported to USMC Recruiting Station Lansing Michigan. Completing a successful tour in command, he was sent to formal school at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. Upon graduation LtCol Wendel was assigned to a HQMC tour as the Head of Officer Procurement, Marine Corps Recruiting Command. Prior to arriving at NROTC Utah, his last tour was as the OIC for the Marine Corps Training and Assistance Group, Saudi Arabia where he was the head of the Royal Saudi Naval Anti-Terrorism course. LtCol Wendel has earned his Masters in Military Science from the USMC Command and Staff College. Personal Awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star.
