NROTC Scholarship Program

4-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP (NAVY OPTION)

Selected applicants for the NROTC scholarship program are awarded scholarships through a highly competitive national selection process. The recipient will be commissioned a naval officer upon graduation and is obligated to a minimum of 4 years active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve. The scholarship recipient will receive full tuition and other financial benefits including books, class fees and $200 per month subsistence at many of the country's leading colleges and universities. NROTC scholarships do not pay for room and board or personal items such as computers.

Applicants for 4 year NROTC scholarships must meet these eligibility requirements:

You must be a U.S. citizen.
You must be at least 17 years of age by September 1 of the year you are starting college and less than 27 years of age on June 30 of the year in which you are eligible for graduation and commissioned status. An age waiver may be granted for prior active military service, on a month-for-month basis, computed as of 1 September of the year of enrollment in NROTC, provided you will not reach your 30th birthday by 30 June of the year in which graduation and commissioning are anticipated.
You must be a high school graduate or possess equivalency certificate by August 1 of the year you are applying.
You must have no moral or personal convictions which prevent the bearing of arms in defense of the United States and you must be deemed physically qualified.
You must meet minimum SAT test scores of 530 verbal and 520 math or minimum ACT test score of 22 in both English and math.
You are also responsible for gaining acceptance to a certified NROTC university. Acceptance does not guarantee assignment to that school, so it is recommended that you apply to at least 3 of your desired universities.

HOW TO APPLY FOR AN NROTC SCHOLARSHIP

Step 1 is to complete the applicant questionnaire found in the Navy/Marine ROTC college scholarships bulletin which is available through your local Navy Recruiter or call 1-800-USA-NAVY. Questionnaires should be received no earlier than March 1 and no later than January 1 of the year you are applying.

Step 2 is to take the SAT or ACT test as early as possible and release scores directly to the NROTC program by using Code 0656 on the test registration form. (There is no other means of providing the scores.) The minimum SAT scores are 530 verbal and 520 math. The minimum ACT scores are 22 in English as well as math. Scores cannot be received before March and will not be considered if received after December 31.

Step 3 is to apply to at least 3 of the universities you would like to attend. Acceptance to an NROTC approved college or university is your responsibility because the NROTC program cannot guarantee acceptance. It is advisable to apply to your university choices by November 1.

Step 4 is to contact your local NROTC program coordinator to begin processing your application. Your coordinator will be identified in a letter indicating you are "board eligible" based on your questionnaire.

Step 5 is to complete the application forms booklet with your local recruiting officer by the Jan 25 completion date so that it can be received at the main headquarters by the Jan 31 deadline.

Step 6 will be the consideration of your application by a selection board which will begin in September and continue meeting periodically through March.
